Īs well, like a user mentioned above, there is also 'Minecrafter' which will allow you to launch the game with mods without having to modify minecraft.jar at all. I suggest that program if you're looking for a FREE alternative. It is NOT Shareware, it is completely free, and provides everything WinRar does, and can even do somethings better than WinRar. Now as for applying mods without WinRar, there is a FREE program called '7Zip'. They just have a general policy to let you keep using the basic features in hopes you'll someday buy it. It has a Free Trial that allows you to use their software, however, if you read the notice that you accept when installing it, you are not supposed to use it after the trial has expired.
